Jackie McNamara today urged Celtic to offer him the long-term contract he craves to end his career at Parkhead.
The 31-year-old is one of a number of players in the final months of their present deals with the club but while most of the headlines have been dominated by John Hartson, Neil Lennon and Bobo Balde, the Scotland international has been waiting an offer of his own.
The Celtic skipper is the longest-serving player at the club, having been there since 1995, and he is desperate that his testimonial year with the champions is not his last.
McNamara said: “To be honest, it was a little bit disappointing only to get a year the last time. I hadn’t played that much before the deal was done and maybe they thought they would just give me a year to see if I could do it again this season without committing themselves to too long a contract.
“If they offered me something longer this time of course I’d be happy to take it. I’d like to finish my career here but I have just turned 31 and it is not as if I am over the hill yet. I’ve still got a good contract in me.”
