Salisbury rained off, Hamilton good to go
Salisbury have been forced to abandon their first meeting in five years due to a waterlogged track.
This evening’s meeting at Hamilton, featuring the rescheduled John Smith’s Scottish Stewards’ Cup, will go ahead as planned.
“We had another 13 millimetres of rain between 7-9pm last night and parts of the course are waterlogged,” said clerk of the course at Salisbury Jeremy Martin.
“They are within the last two furlongs and can’t be avoided, they are key areas and they have just taken enough. We’ve had 110 millimetres in 11 days.
“It’s the first meeting we’ve lost in five years. July 2007 was the last wet summer we had and our luck had to run out eventually.”
Hamilton's card looked doubtful earlier in the week but a couple of dry days have enabled groundstaff to get the meeting on.
Clerk of the course Hazel Peplinski said after a 7am inspection: “It’s good news for a change.
“We have no scary forecasts, we’ve got a bright morning and had only 0.2 millimetres overnight.
“The updated going is soft, heavy in places. There are different degrees of soft and different degrees of heavy.”
