Giovanni Trapattoni has been named as the Philips Sports Manager of the Year.

The Republic of Ireland manager has been recognised for helping to steer his side to qualification for Euro 2012.

Trap beat off competition from Dublin's All-Ireland winning football manager Pat Gilroy, Leinster's Heineken Cup-winning coach Joe Schmidt and Kilkenny hurling manager Brian Cody.
