England’s Justin Rose and Dane Anders Hansen went into a play-off for the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth today.
Hansen made life tough for the local favourite when he sank a seven-foot birdie putt on the last to finish at eight under par, but Rose, in the rough off the tee at the par five, made a brilliant pitch to within two feet of the flag.
He was round in 71 to Hansen’s 69.
South African Richard Sterne then had the chance to make it a three-man shoot-out for the first prize of nearly £500,000, but he could not match their closing birdies and finished one behind along with Fiji’s Vijay Singh.
Overnight leaders Paul Broadhurst and Ross Fisher had a nightmare time, both falling out of the running before they even came to the last few holes.
