Homeowners are being advised they may be paying too much insurance on their property.

Meanwhile, others are paying too little and could find their insurance does not cover the cost of rebuilding.

New figures from the Society of Chartered Surveyors found average rebuilding costs have increased by between 4.25% – 4.5% across the country in the past year.

The society has published a guide for rebuilding costs to help owners with insuring their property.

President Conor Hogan reminded the public that rebuilding costs are not the same as market value, and has advised those in one-off houses to get their homes valued every few years.
