A homeless man has been murdered after he was attacked while he slept rough in the doorway of an off-licence, police said today.

A homeless man has been murdered after he was attacked while he slept rough in the doorway of an off-licence, police said today.

David Scott, 38, known locally as Scotty, was beaten and suffered multiple head injuries just before 1am last Friday, in Old Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, Dorset.

Concerned passers-by called an ambulance and Mr Scott was rushed Hospital, but his condition deteriorated later on September 13 and he died.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Holloway, who is leading the investigation into the murder, said: “The attacker may not be aware of the severity of the injuries he inflicted and I would appeal to that person to examine his conscience and come forward to explain what happened.

A police spokeswoman said David had only recently come down to Bournemouth from Widnes in Lancashire and had no job and no home, usually sleeping rough or staying in hostels.

Police have only just released details of the murder this evening.
