The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin has announced that Dell is to establish a new research facility in Limerick.

The centre will eventually employ up to 50 people.

The Engineering Centre of Competency for Communications and Network Product Development is supported by IDA Ireland.

The Centre will have specialist R&D capabilities with responsibility for the development of wireless communication peripherals, and manufacturing optimisation software products for use by Dell’s manufacturing facilities worldwide.

The new operation will collaborate with the University of Limerick and will recruit staff over a four-year period.

Minister Martin, welcoming the development, said: “This investment by Dell is another major endorsement of Ireland as a location for R&D, coming as it does from a global leader in the technology industry and so soon after a significant R&D announcement by five other multinational companies recently.”
