Russell Crowe has hit out at the media hype surrounding his assault on a hotel worker in New York - insisting it's an everyday occurrence in hotels around the world.
The actor was given a conditional discharge by a New York court last week after admitting he threw a telephone at a concierge in June.
But he insists the controversy surrounding it was blown out of proportion by the press - who should have concentrated on more important world issues.
He says: "Travelling businessmen get touchy or testy with hotel staff in every major city all around the world."
But he adds: "That doesn't excuse the fact that I lost my temper... what I did was stupid. I admitted that straight away.
"I got a $160 (£93) court cost fine for something that would have had more news print about it than some very horrific and specific things that we should know about in our community.
"That is what I mean by getting it into perspective."
