Andre Fabre is keen for Hurricane Run to appear next in the Budweiser Irish Derby, where there is a chance that he could clash with Epsom hero Motivator.
Fabre’s colt finished a neck second to Shamardal in last Sunday’s French equivalent, the Prix du Jockey Club, where he appeared to have found the race’s new distance of an extended mile and two furlongs insufficient.
Having easily won his previous three starts, Hurricane Run looked inexperienced and took a long time to get going before finally hitting top gear close to the line when it was too late.
“The plan is to go to Ireland,” Fabre told the Racing Post.
“It was frustrating to be beaten like that but the way he ran was very promising. He is a good horse.
“Motivator was very impressive at Epsom but Shamardal is a good horse also. He was a leading two-year-old and I’m not sure Motivator beat the same type of horse (at Epsom).
“Hurricane Run will obviously stay and the mile and a half at the Curragh should suit him better than the trip at Chantilly.”
The Irish Derby on June 26 is one of the options for the Michael Bell-trained Motivator, who could instead wait six days for the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown.
Ireland looks less likely for Rocamadour, who finished a close fourth at Chantilly, but was promoted to third when Laverock was disqualified for interference.
His trainer Mick Channon said: “I was thrilled with his run and all the options are open. He is in the St James’s Palace Stakes, which might come a bit quick, and there is the option of the Irish Derby, but I don’t think I would want to go further than a mile and a quarter.
“I would rather go back in trip than up at this stage.”
