Oldham are hoping to announce a permanent replacement for departed boss Iain Dowie next week.

Caretaker boss, former Irish interntional John Sheridan, and assistant David Eyres have been in temporary charge of team affairs and were recently granted a five-match extension by the club’s new owners.

“John and David will still be in charge for the weekend,” chief executive Alan Hardy said.

“There will be no announcement until next week at the earliest. We know who we want and are trying to put things in place.

“There are one or two hurdles to get over, but we are nearing the stage when we can make an announcement.”
