A thrifty mother-of-two gets her kids to take public toilet rolls to use at home.

Keeley Newstead – who has kids Kyle, 15, and six-year-old Declan with her and husband Darren - doesn't see the point in spending money on pens and pencils when her children can grab them for free from betting shops and Ikea, and she even rations toilet paper at home.

The 37 year old said: "Always look out for spare loo rolls in public toilets. There’s often one on the top of the tank so put it in your bag.

“And ration loo paper at home – six sheets are enough per visit!

“We haven’t bought a pen or pencil in years. Ikea give away free pencils and even tape measures and pens can be got from the bookies or Argos. The kids even take them to school.”

What's more, if her children want sauce on their chips then she uses sachets from fast food establishments, and she uses the internet to complain to customer service departments to save money on postage and telephone bills and get free samples at the same time.

Keeley added to the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: “There is so much free stuff out there we might as well help ourselves. It saves us a fortune.

“The kids love it. It is like a game.”
