Lingfield beaten by snow

This afternoon’s meeting at Lingfield has been abandoned due to snow.

Officials first inspected at the all-weather venue at 6.30am and while the track was fit for racing at that hour, clerk of the course Neil MacKenzie Ross thought it prudent to have another look at 10am as snow was forecast.

Unfortunately, even though the minus 12.5C temperature overnight proved no problem, snowfall throughout the morning has beaten the team.

“It is snowing thick and fast now,” said MacKenzie Ross.

“As soon as we clear the track it is settling again and it is a hopeless task. We had to pursue it earlier this morning but it has quickly become obvious that we are fighting a losing battle.”
