US issues renewed threat to Taliban

America has issued a renewed threat to the Taliban, the group that has allowed Osama bin Lade to shelter in Afghanistan.

As the US continues the search for the man believed to be responsible for the attacks on New York and Washington, US Secretary of State, Colin Powell, says those who have given him a safe haven will pay the price.

But he admitted he does not know where bin Laden is hiding.

"I don’t think many people know where he is, but we’ll find him," he said.

"We’ll find him in due course and those who harbour him will discover that is a penalty for harbouring him, for giving him a safe haven."

Officials in the US have revealed that two terrorist attacks have been thwarted since September 11 - the day New York’s twin towers were toppled.

They have gathered evidence suggesting collaborators were in various stages of planning further attacks in the US and elsewhere.
