A New Zealand woman who is struggling to cope with the economic downturn is auctioning off space on her backside to be tattooed in a bizarre money-making scheme.

Tina Beznec, from Lower Hutt, says the winning bidder can choose whatever design he or she wants tattooed on a nine-centimetre square of her bottom.

The auction listing has become a viral sensation, attracting more than 170,000 hits and bids of more than €6,000, something Tina finds amusing.

"It's amazing that it's gone global. Everyone's talking about it," she said.
