More than 113,000 staff at UK supermarket chain Asda have pocketed a share of annual bonuses worth a record £19m (€27m), it was announced today.
The payout includes an extra 11,000 checkout workers.
Asda has now paid bonuses totalling nearly £70m (€101m) since introducing the scheme five years ago.
The group, which is part of US retail giant Wal-Mart, employs 130,000 staff, has 274 stores in the UK and six George stand-alone clothing outlets.
It recently stepped up its expansion by pledging to open at least 15 new stores and create 6,000 jobs in 2005.
