Liverpool keen to keep Hyppia

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has revealed Sami Hyypia will be offered a new contract despite making a bid for Gabriel Milito.

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has revealed Sami Hyypia will be offered a new contract despite making a bid for Gabriel Milito.

Reds boss Rafael Benitez is keen to bring in a new central defender with Milito the main target.

But the Anfield club have shown their faith in 31-year-old Hyypia – who preceded Steven Gerrard as club captain – by offering the Finn an extension to his current deal.

Parry told the club’s website, www.liverpoolfc.tv: “We will be talking to Sami about a new deal.

“We’re interested in bringing at least one more centre-half to the club because Sami and Jamie (Carragher) can’t be expected to play 50 games every season without any back-up.”
