Creator of Royle Family fighting lung cancer
The Royle Family creator Caroline Aherne is reportedly fighting lung cancer.
The actress and writer, whose shows also include Mrs Merton, has been treated in her home city of Manchester.
Speaking at a fundraising event in the city, she said: “I’ve had cancer and my brother’s had cancer and we know how it affects people.”
Aherne, 50, has previously been treated for bladder and eye cancer, and is supporting the launch of the Macmillan Cancer Improvement Partnership.
She said: “They’ve asked me to get involved and I’m really glad that I can do my bit to encourage Manchester people to speak up about where things do go wrong with cancer care.”
