Greene is new Carlow hurling boss

The Carlow County Board have announced the appointment of Jim Greene as their senior hurling manager for next year, following a board meeting.

Greene, a former Mount Sion and Waterford star, attended Saturday's Carlow senior hurling championship semi-final replay between St. Mullins and Naomh Brid and is enthusiastic about his appointment.

"I have been watching Carlow's under-age progress with interest. They have been hugely impressive over the past few years, with lots of talent to work with," he said.

"Hopefully we will bring this forward with the National League our first priority. Then we'll have our sights on the Christy Ring Cup."

Among Greene's backroom team will be Cyril Hughes, who formerly managed both the Carlow and Wexford footballers.

Greene will be appointing his own physical trainer as his charges prepare for next year's NHL campaign in Division Two, and the Christy Ring Cup later in the year.

Meanwhile, the Carlow senior footballers should know this week who their manager will be for the coming season. Former Meath boss Eamonn Barry is favoured for the role.
