Helicopter gunships were today seen launching new attacks in Somalia, close to the scene of a US airstrike aimed at suspected al-Qaida terrorists.

“Two helicopters have again attacked,” said Ali Seed Yusuf, a resident of Afmadow, a southern Somalia town that was attacked by a US Special Forces AC-130 gunship a day earlier.

It was unclear whether they were Ethiopian or American helicopters or whether there were casualties.

“The helicopters fired several rockets toward the road that leads to the Kenyan border,” Yusuf said.
