Britain’s top long jumper Chris Tomlinson was beaten into second place at the Norwich Union Grand Prix at Birmingham’s NIA tonight.
The 22-year-old Teessider, who won the AAA in Sheffield earlier this month, produced a best jump of 7.72 metres in the third round of the competition.
But that left Tomlinson trailing Dwight Phillips, America’s reigning world champion indoors and out, who won the event with his first round effort of 7.91m.
Portugal’s Gaspar Araujo took third with 7.71m while Birchfield’s Jonathan Moore produced a career best jump of 7.45m for sixth spot.
