Director Oliver Stone appears to be winning his battle with Australian filmmaker Baz Luhrmann to be first to the screen with the story of Alexander the Great.
Stone plans to begin production this summer on the epic adventure, which will star Irish actor Colin Farrell in the title role.
Luhrmann, who has Leonardo Dicaprio as his star, will not begin filming until November, allowing DiCaprio to first star in The Good Shepherd, a CIA story which is being produced by Robert De Niro.
Hollywood analysts are wondering if there is room for two costly epics about Alexander the Great and would not be surprised if only one made it to the screen.
