The United States has launched a sixth consecutive day of attacks on Afghanistan, with warplanes pounding positions north and east of the capital, Kabul, this morning.

Anti-aircraft guns sprung into action after US jets dropped five bombs near the frontline between the Taliban and the opposition Northern Alliance.

Reports said the ground trembled and windows rattled in Kabul from the force of the impact.

The United States also launched sustained attacks around Kabul last night, with explosions heard from miles away.
