Striking journalists from Zambia’s government-owned Times newspaper were forced back to work today by armed paramilitary officers heeding management orders.
The troops were dispatched to the homes of striking staff and escorted them back to the newspaper office in Ndola, in Zambia’s northern copper belt area.
Times of Zambia workers went on strike yesterday in protest at delayed payment of salaries and financial mismanagement by the management.
The deputy editor, Davey Sakala, warned that the management would take action against the employees who were behind the strike.
