Detectives were today investigating a multi-million pound jewellery robbery after two raiders smashed their way into an exclusive store whose clients are reported to include pop star Elton John and David and Victoria Beckham.
The pair grabbed the luxury items believed to be worth £3m from a window display of David Morris Jewellers in New Bond Street, central London yesterday morning, Scotland Yard said.
The men ran off in the direction of Old Bond street and through the Royal Arcade before escaping in a nearby car.
The theft comes just four days after an armed gang raided top department store Harvey Nichols and escaped with less than £160,000 worth of jewellery.
The masked gunmen tied up and blindfolded two security guards working at the outlet in Knightsbridge, central London on Christmas day before escaping.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said staff from David Morris jewellers were believed to have set off a panic alarm, before pursuing the robbers and taking down the suspects’ car registration number.
He added: ‘‘Because of their quick thinking, police have now found the abandoned getaway vehicle, which is believed to have been stolen.’’
