Tizzard considers Warwick options

Colin Tizzard could launch a two-pronged attack at the Grade Two Ballymore Properties Leamington Novices’ Hurdle at Warwick on Saturday.

The English handler is considering running Grade Two winner Flight Leader and Leading Authority in the two-mile-five-furlong contest.

And as both novices have proven themselves on heavy ground this term, Tizzard has no qualms about the expected testing conditions at the weekend.

“At this stage they will both run, that might change nearer the time but at this stage they are both on target,” said Tizzard.

“We have entered our two best novices but we probably won’t make a decision until Friday.

“Flight Leader does love soft ground so there is no point in putting him away for the winter as he won’t get his ground later in the season.

“He’s a winter horse and he’ll probably have more races now than he will later in the season.

“He’ll be the best novice hurdler I’ve had. He doesn’t show much at home but he saves his best for the racecourse, which is a good thing.

“He looks like he’ll make a lovely chaser next year and I can’t wait to go for next year’s Royal & SunAlliance Chase with him.”

Flight Leader is as low as 14-1 for the Ballymore Properties Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
