Troubled waters at the Bridge for AWOL Crespo

Hernan Crespo's future at Stamford Bridge is looking more troubled than ever after the striker reportedly ignored a request to return to Chelsea to get treatment on his injured calf.

Hernan Crespo's future at Stamford Bridge is looking more troubled than ever after the striker reportedly ignored a request to return to Chelsea to get treatment on his injured calf.

The 30-year-old picked up the problem during Argentina’s 3-2 defeat to England, opening a war of words between Crespo’s club and country bosses, Jose Mourinho and Jose Pekerman.

“His injury came through not playing regularly,” accused Pekerman.

“If he was fitter and playing regularly, it would not have happened.”

The coach claimed he found it “difficult to believe” that Crespo could not get a game for Chelsea, and urged Mourinho to get him match fit.

Pekerman has decided to take Crespo to Qatar for Argentina’s friendly on Wednesday, and intends to play him despite the injury, a decision that baffles Mourinho.

“I have to wait with my heart in my mouth, hoping that my players return safely.” said Mourinho.
