Dermot Weld’s Misty Heights was unplaced in the Grade One American Oaks at Hollywood Park last night.
The Irish trainer took the 10-furlong race with Dimitrova last year but Misty Heights could finish no better than ninth as the ex-Jamie Osborne-trained Ticker Tape recorded her first graded stakes win.
Ticker Tape, who is now trained by Jim Cassidy, took up the running two furlongs out under Kent Desormeaux and held off the Japanese challenger Dance In The Mood by a length.
Hollywood Story finished a further two lengths away in third.
Desormeaux told www.bloodhorse.com: “She settled in behind the Japanese horse (Dance in the Mood) and it looked like the rider had a lot of horse.
“Once we cornered for home, I just went for broke. I was trying to just steal off while (Dance in the Mood) was trapped behind horses. The end result is that this filly is capable of doing things like that.”
