This afternoon’s meeting at Leicester has been given the go-ahead.

Track officials staged a second morning inspection at 9.30am after overnight temperatures dipped to minus-six degrees.

An initial 6.45am check proved inconclusive but any remaining frost had thawed by the time clerk of the course Jimmy Stevenson reassessed the situation.

He said: “Things have improved a great deal since first thing this morning and we are racing.

“The frost has gone out of the ground far quicker than on Tuesday.

“The sun is shining and that’s helped us.”
