Supermarket duo rob $45k to fund sex-change op

Two US-based supermarket employees reportedly robbed $45,000 to fund a sex-change operation.

According to police, Walmart worker Spencer Cullen, 23, wanted the cash to help become a man, while Adriano Altiveros, 19, took the money and used it to buy a new car.

Prescott police spokesman Lt. Andy Reinhardt said: "Cullen told detectives that ... her motive for stealing the money was to go forward with a sex change operation that she had wanted.

"I don't believe that she had made arrangements at that point, but I do believe that she had already started the process (to become a man)."

Altiveros used $22,000 of the cash - which has all been recovered apart from 31 cents - to splash out on a new car.
