Designers are in Dublin this weekend to create a new product in just three days.
The Hackathon event takes place in DCU from today until Sunday.
The event aims to create the next generation of consumer hardware products.
Katherine Hague from Hackathon said participants would be competing across the weekend.
"We'll have 30 or 40 people pitching ideas (which) are voted on," she said. "The best ideas get to continue on throughout the weekend, which get presented to a panel of judges on Sunday night."
There are a number of prizes, including cash, which will help contestants to start their company.
Meanwhile, a free event, aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, is taking place is NUI Galway today.
Teams of educators and business owners will speak on topics and skills including sustainability, negotiation and decision making.
The conference will also feature a sports panel, which will deal with developing the individual.
