A former Daily Mirror journalist has claimed that the practice of phone hacking was used at the newspaper under the editorship of Piers Morgan.

James Hipwell worked as a financial journalist with the Daily Mirror in Britain, for two years until 2000.

In an interview with the London Independent, he claims the practice was widespread at other titles in the newspaper group, including the People.

He said he is willing to give evidence to a public inquiry on the matter.

But the Mirror has denied the allegations.
