More than 35 licensed and unlicensed taxi drivers brawled in a square near several Moscow railway stations, leaving eight people injured and some 15 arrested, according to reports.
The clash broke out late yesterday around Komsomolskaya square where three major Moscow train stations are located.
Unlicensed drivers allegedly started smashing privately-owned yellow taxi cabs with bats and fighting with their drivers.
A dispatcher for the privately-owned New Yellow Taxi company confirmed the fight, but refused to comment further.
An unnamed official in the Moscow prosecutor’s office said eight people were treated after the fight ended, and one of them was taken to hospital with a head wound. Fifteen people were arrested.
Fights have broken out in the past between licensed and unlicensed taxi drivers in Moscow, competing for fares and the best parking spots.
Taxi drivers brawled outside Kursky train station in August.
