One-time World Cup star Paul Gascoigne is facing jail today after he admitted driving while more than four times the legal limit.

The 43-year-old former England man will be sentenced at Newcastle Magistrates Court where last month he admitted drink-driving.

After hearing the midfielder was found to have 142mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath – the limit is 35mg – District Judge Stephen Earl warned Gascoigne all options “up to and including a custodial sentence” were open.

A sentence of 12 weeks could be appropriate, the judge said at the last hearing, before adjourning the case for probation service reports.

The former Newcastle United, Spurs, Lazio, Rangers, Middlesbrough and Everton player was caught driving an MG car erratically by police in Jesmond, Newcastle, on October 8 at 2.45pm.

A separate drink-drive charge, which Gascoigne denies, will be heard at a later date at Northallerton Magistrates’ Court.
