Man who attacked train passengers in Germany shot dead

Police have shot dead a man who injured multiple people on a train in southern Germany with what media reports said was an axe.

The dpa news agency reported that Wuerzburg police said the man attacked passengers on a regional train in Bavaria with "blunt and slashing" weapons and several people possibly had life-threatening injuries.

They would not comment on the German media reports that the man had attacked passengers with an axe.

The Bavarian interior ministry confirmed that police had shot and killed the attacker.
