Sidibe in limbo

Stoke striker Mamady Sidibe faces an anxious wait to discover the severity of his knee injury.

Stoke striker Mamady Sidibe faces an anxious wait to discover the severity of his knee injury.

The Mali frontman picked up the injury during the warm-up before Stoke’s reserve team clash against Aston Villa on Monday.

Two separate scans have proved inconclusive, with one specialist suggesting he only faces a few weeks out and another warning of a potential nine-month lay off.

Sidibe now faces further tests and told the BBC: “We don’t know whether it’s torn or ruptured, but they think it might be the cruciate ligament.

“If it’s only a slight tear then I could be back before the end of the season, but if it’s ruptured then it will be months.

“It doesn’t feel too good, but we’ll see what the next specialist says.

“They’re thinking about putting a camera in there to see if what the damage is but if it’s nothing then it will take three weeks to get over the operation.”
