Heavy snow affecting Britain and the North

Much of Britain has woken up this morning in the grip of Arctic conditions.

Much of Britain has woken up this morning in the grip of Arctic conditions.

There were heavy snow showers in Scotland, Wales and south west England.

In Cornwall, the military were called in as up to 1,000 drivers were stranded in the snow and 500 people were forced to spend the night in leisure centres.

While in Northern Ireland, roads are also understood to be blocked and power lines are down.
