Nikolay Davydenko staged a stunning fightback from two sets down to defeat Tommy Haas and go through to the semi-finals of the US Open.

The Russian won 4-6 6-7 (3-7) 6-4 6-4 6-4 and will play either Roger Federer or James Blake on Saturday for a place in the final.

After a blistering start by Haas, seventh seed Davydenko edged the the third set before managing to draw level.

In a nerve-wracking decider which saw five breaks of serve, Davydenko edged through as Haas, who had earlier received treatment to his thigh, struggled.
