Roscommon monitor Shine injury

A second half injury to star forward Donie Shine was the only blip on an otherwise satisfactory night for Connacht SFC champions Roscommon in New York.

A second half injury to star forward Donie Shine was the only blip on an otherwise satisfactory night for Connacht SFC champions Roscommon in New York.

The Rossies recorded a 3-21 to 1-11 victory in their Championship opener against the Big Apple side, setting up a semi-final clash with Leitrim or Sligo on June 12.

Shine, who scored 0-06 last night, was forced off in the 37th minute after colliding with one of the New York players.

Enda Kenny came on in his place and added a point to the visitors' tally.

Shine had a big influence in Roscommon's 20th senior provincial title win last summer, with his accuracy from frees proving crucial at times.

He disappointed in last week's loss to Longford in the Allianz Football League Division 4 final and manager Fergal O'Donnell will want the 22-year-old back to full fitness and firing on all cylinders soon - especially with David Casey, Cathal Shine, Fintan Cregg and David O'Gara all nursing long-term injuries.
