An army convoy carrying ammunition has exploded in northwest India, killing two civilians.
At least two guests at a motel near the scene died as blasts destroyed as many as 70 trucks, according to reports.
It is believed electrical sparks from one of the trucks triggered a fire, near the border with Pakistan.
Nearly 240 ammunition trucks were travelling from northern Punjab state to the border state of Rajasthan, Press Trust of India quoted army officers as saying.
About 170 trucks escaped damage.
The explosions, near Bikaner, sent locals running for cover.
"Hundreds of panicked residents fled the area as shells began exploding," said Gajendra Singh Negi, a local resident.
Two people staying at a nearby motel were killed when exploding shells landed on the building, Mr Negi said.
Defence Minister George Fernandes says he has ordered an investigation.
