Limerick scrape win over Roscommon

LIMERICK 0-14 ROSCOMMON 1-10

A 73rd-minute Kieran O'Callaghan point ensured Limerick claimed a one-point victory over a determined Roscommon side at Kilmallock this afternoon.

Late on in this game it looked like the sides would share the spoils, but somehow Limerick managed to hold out and secure a deserved win.

Wind-assisted in the first half, the hosts led by 0-05 to 0-02 after 25 minutes, but Roscommon reduced the gap to the minimum by the interval with Gary Cox and Senan Kilbride amongst the visitor's scorers.

Limerick led by 0-6 to 0-5 at the turnaround, and despite Roscommon having their second half substitute David Keenan dismissed seven minutes after the restart through a yellow card, the visitors rallied strongly.

A Gary Cox goal levelled the tie at 1-07 to 0-10 in the final quarter and with points from Dunning and Cox, Roscommon broke two points in front.

Limerick then had midfielder Thomas Galvin dismissed but the hosts battled bravely back into the lead by the 70th minute thanks to a Stephen Lavin point.

In a further twist, it looked like the sides would finish level-pegging when Karol Mannion equalised two-and-a-half minutes into injury-time, but there was still time for a late winner as O'Callaghan's effort sent the hosts home with two valuable league points.
