James Hewitt, the former lover of Diana, Princess of Wales, has won the Back To Reality television show.

The ginger-haired smoothie said he was “in complete shock” after leaving the luxury mansion last night.

Hewitt praised his fellow contestants in the Channel Five show, adding: “We are all going to meet up and have a ding dong.”

Back To Reality was billed as the battle of the reality television stars, with a host of people made famous by the genre putting themselves up for public votes.

All 12 guests entered the luxury mansion three weeks ago. They completed reality challenges to win votes from viewers.

Hewitt and Maureen Rees of Driving School were voted the two most popular guests after Craig Phillips had been ejected earlier on.

The ex-army major’s win netted him £93,500 (€139,400) to donate to The Passage, a Christian charity that helps London’s homeless.

The 11 other contestants were: Josie D’Arby of The Games, Lizzy Bardsley of Wife Swap; Nick Bateman of Big Brother; Uri Geller of I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!; Jade Goody of Big Brother; Catalina Guirado of I’m A Celebrity; Sarah Kozer of Joe Millionaire; Craig Phillips of Big Brother; Maureen Rees; Ricardo Ribeiro of The Salon; and Rik Waller of Pop Idol.
