A combined Garda and PSNI team is to play rugby under a new emblem made up of the Garda and PSNI crests.
They will take to the field in green jerseys as 'Ireland Police Rugby'.
With relations between the reformed Northern Ireland Policing Service, the PSNI and the Gardaí improved, the two forces have been co-operating more on many levels.
In a sporting context, police from north and south of the border have been playing rugby together since 2003. Now they have agreed to put the relationship on a new footing.
The rebranded team will have their first fixture against a British police selection in November.
Plans are also in place to play a French police side in the New Year.
The team is modelled on the Irish rugby team which fields players from both sides of the border.
