French Grand Prix organisers plan to offer British fans the chance to win a lifetime ticket to their race in a bid to attract more spectators.
The Magny-Cours race traditionally struggles to sell tickets but is taking inspiration from Le Mans by attempting to attract British fans.
Jacques Regis, boss of the French motorsport federation and vice president of world governing body the FIA, spelt out his determination to increase attendance in London today.
Regis announced plans for a competition where British fans will be given a lifetime ticket to the French Grand Prix if they buy tickets for this year’s race and accurately predict the top six finishers.
Magny-Cours has a contract until 2011 to run the race and Regis is bullish about the future after a 15% increase in advanced ticket sales.
He said: “I have no problem with the future. There is no problem with transport, this year for the first time we have a motorway going straight to Magny-Cours.”
Regis hopes to encourage British fans to combine holidays in France with his race, which last year attracted 70,000 fans and needs to do the same again to break even.
He is also planning promotion in neighbouring Spain in a bid to cash in on Fernando Alonso’s success.
