Aston Villa midfielder Shaun Maloney is hoping his late winner against Fulham will earn him a starting place in the Carling Cup clash at Wrexham.
The Scotland international has been included in Martin O’Neill’s first XI only five times since his £1m move from Celtic in January.
O’Neill has insisted Maloney is staying at Villa despite the player admitting to still being homesick.
The threadbare nature of O’Neill’s squad means he can make few changes although Marlon Harewood, Gary Cahill and Luke Moore in addition to Maloney could be given a start if he decides to freshen up the team.
