Everton deputy chairman Bill Kenwright insists negotiations to sign Arsenal goalkeeper Richard Wright are at an ‘‘advanced stage’’.

Toffees boss David Moyes has given up on trying to sign Derby goalkeeper Mart Poom and the club’s attention has now turned to the England international.

Wright cost the Gunners £6m last summer when he signed from Ipswich.

But his first-team chances at Arsenal have been limited by England number one David Seaman, and his decision to play on for at least one more season means Wright may face another year on the sidelines at Highbury.

Kenwright told his club’s official website www.evertonfc.tv: ‘‘I can confirm that we are at an advanced stage of negotiations with Arsenal Football Club for the transfer of Richard Wright.’’
