Cork's Diarmuid O'Sullivan is racing to be fit for his side's opening Munster SHC clash with Clare on Sunday week.
'The Rock' received an eye injury during last Sunday's win for Cloyne over Douglas in the Cork senior championship. He visited an eye specialist yesterday afternoon to discover the extent of the injury and will know tonight if he will be able to line out.
Cork hurling selector Martin Bowen is confident that O'Sullivan will be fit for the big game.
"There was a real worry initially because any sort of an eye injury is a serious one," said Bowen.
"At this stage though I am confident that Diarmuid will be okay for the Clare game. I don't think the injury is as serious as was initially feared.
"Diarmuid is seeing the specialist for a final report but from what I understand he should be receiving good news, which is a relief," added the Cork selector.
The Cloyne player is certainly a major asset at the edge of the square and would be an enormous player for the team to try and replace at this stage of the season.
O'Sullivan's Cloyne team-mate Killian Cronin is one of the many players Cork have tried in O'Sullivan's place at full-back during the league, but none managed to succeed and he was restored to a defensive role during the latter stages of the NHL campaign.
