Celine Dion has been awarded the rights to the Internet domain name www.celinedion.com.

Celine Dion has been awarded the rights to the Internet domain name www.celinedion.com.

The singer and her recording company Sony Music Entertainment (Canada) brought the case against Jeff Burgar, of High Prairie, Alberta, Canada, who had registered the name.

The UN World Intellectual Property Organisation ruled Mr Burgar had no legitimate right to the name and ordered it be transferred.

Mr Burgar contended he was using the website as a fan club.

He said he was not using the name for commercial gain and the site was clearly marked unauthorised so nobody would mistake it for Dion's official site.
