Camogie will get top billing next September as the Camogie Association's Senior All-Ireland final is played at Croke Park on the same day as the All-Ireland Under-21 hurling decider.
In an unprecedented move, the men's Under-21 final will be staged as a double-header alongside the ladies' camogie clash. Not only that, but in a swing away from the usual "ladies first" policy, camogie's leading lights of 2006 will be the headline act at GAA headquarters on September 10 next.
Miriam O'Callaghan, President of the Camogie Association, explained: "I am delighted that the U-21 final will be played as a curtain raiser to our senior camogie final. In previous years the staging of the two games in separate locations has been problematic forcing Gaelic games supporters to choose between two games.
"Counties appeared in both finals on a number of occasions. The situation even arose a couple of years ago when a brother and sister were both playing forcing the family to divide their loyalties.
"When we approached the GAA regarding the staging of both games in Croke Park we were looking to facilitate the supporters and I feel that this is a big step in the whole integration process," O'Callaghan added.
Meanwhile, the Camogie Association is also in discussions with the GAA regarding the staging of its Junior All-Ireland final which traditionally has been played ahead of the Senior tie.
