Three US marines and a 1st Armored Division soldier were killed in fighting in western and central Iraq, the military said today.
The marines were killed “as a result of enemy action” on Sunday in Anbar province, which stretches from west of Baghdad to the Jordanian and Syrian borders.
The statement did not identify the three and gave no other details.
The soldier was killed and four others wounded when their patrol was attacked on Sunday near the city of Samarra, 100 60 miles north of Baghdad.
Including the newly announced deaths, 63 American soldiers have been killed in fighting across the country since April 4, when an uprising by a radical Shiite militia in the south and a Marine offensive on Sunni insurgents in Fallujah began.
At least 665 US soldiers have died in Iraq since the war began in March 2003.
