Oliver to deliver alternative Christmas speech

Jamie Oliver makes a culinary u-turn in this year’s alternative Christmas speech.

The TV chef tells viewers that modern life leaves no time to cook fresh food.

Oliver’s own family will be eating pre-shaped and pre-seasoned turkey pieces this Christmas, he says.

Luckily, for the nation’s schoolchildren, the Jamie’s School Dinners star has been having a nightmare.

Jamie acts out the bad dream in his Channel 4 Alternative Christmas Message, which goes head-to-head with the Queen’s.

The cheeky chef shouts at a dinner lady when she tries to serve fresh fruit and vegetables to schoolchildren.

Instead he gives the kids white bread, processed cheese sandwiches, and cream-laden sponge cake.

The schoolchildren, tanked up with chemicals, are running wild in the school.

Bridget Jones actress Jessica Stevenson plays one of Jamie’s dinner ladies in his nasty dream.

“For me there’s only one option,” he says. “Try and get your turkey from as far away as possible…pre-portioned, pre-seasoned, and pre-shaped.

“Cook from frozen. We’re all too busy to be making real food. It’s pathetic.”

Jamie dreams that he has woken up from his nightmare, but instead of finding Jools in his bed, he cuddles up to Nora, the head chef from his school dinners series.

When Jamie finally wakes, he delivers his real Christmas message.

“If I could have one wish in 2006 it is to make sure that we really look after the beautiful kids of this country and truly make the nation a healthier, happier, cleverer place," he says.

“I reckon we could do it.”
